Lanzarote, like its Canarian counterparts in the archipelago, is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean that largely influences the land temperature. The Canary Current flows along the African coast and brings colder water temperatures, which help to moderate the climate. North-eastern trade winds offer a cooling breeze and keep temperatures down throughout the summer. Occasionally, the hot sirocco wind (known as “la calima”) blows over from the Sahara Desert, bringing dry air laden with dust and searing temperatures.
