Madrid Weather |
In winter, the days are crystal-clear with bright sunshine. Rain isn’t very common. Temperatures may reach around 0ºC during the day on extremely cold days, so be sure to bring along a warm coat and gloves. It rarely snows and even though the weather is cold, the environment is filled with a lively spirit. The humidity is low, making the extreme temperatures much more tolerable. The piercing blue skies in winter compensate for the low readings on the thermometer. In summer, the most significant difference is the temperature, moving from an average daily high of 10ºC to an average of 35ºC. It is even drier in summer, so make sure you walk around with a bottle of water. During these warm months, most offices adopt a different schedule, with people starting at 8am and leaving at 3pm. This gives Madrid a whole new life in summer, starting in June when the days get longer and the evenings are warm. The outdoor terrazas, or terraces, fill with people after working hours, making Madrid one of the most bustling cities in Europe. July and August are the hottest months, with some days seeing temperatures of 40ºC. Madrid is filled with parks and trees that provide large areas of shade; very much appreciated on these days. Madrid’s population decreases significantly during August, as most people rush to their house in the countryside or to seaside resorts. The warm weather, for the Madrileños is to be appreciated in other ways. For tourists, this leaves an immense city with thousands of things to discover, with very little queuing and a greater probability of getting seated at a table for lunch. With such extreme temperatures, each season offers different things, but no matter what temperature is felt outside, Madrid greets you with great warmth!
