San Sebastian is situated on the coast in the very north of Spain, 20 km west of the French border. The city lies at the northwest end of the Pyrenees mountain range and temperatures become significantly cooler with increased rainfall as you travel further into the mountains. Cities with a maritime climate are influenced by the ocean, with moderate summers, comparatively warm winters and a narrow range of temperatures throughout the year. The Cantabrian Sea plays host to some of the Atlantic’s roughest weather due to the Spanish continental shelf extending into the bay. Many coastal areas are characterised by shallow waters that bring rough seas. Large storms often rock La Concha Bay, particularly during the winter months.
