Weather in Barcelona |
Barcelona’s proximity to the Mediterranean and the southern tip of the Pyrenees Mountains affords it mild weather for the better part of the year, although moisture coming in from the sea can make the city rather humid, especially with the rains in autumn and the summer heat. Summers can be quite hot, with temperatures ranging from about 21oC to 30oC. In late July and early August, things heat up, and the sun can become punishing, pushing well into the 30s. Summer is also humid, dappling your skin with sweat and water. The city can feel like a gigantic steam bath at times. Because Barcelona is situated in the north, close to France, it experiences more cold than Spain’s southern cities. Temperatures cool down in the autumn and winter, with occasional snowfalls, but the snow is infrequent and doesn’t linger for long. In the autumn, temperatures can reach as high as the low 20s, but tend to hover around the mid-teens. The rains arrive in October, and come winter, the thermostat can dip down into the single digits, with a mixture of rain and sunshine. With the arrival of spring, there are more sunny days to enjoy. You’ll experience Barcelona’s pleasant weather without the excessive heat found in summer, and minus the deluge of autumn rain. To summarise, Barcelona is a destination you can visit all year long, without too many weather extremes. Winter can become a little nippy, and summer has its share of scorchers, but most of the time the city offers reasonable weather and plenty of sunshine.
