Praia do Guincho |
Drive around 5 km from Cascais along the incredibly scenic Atlantic coastal road to the northwest and you will see the unmistakable landmark of Guincho, one of Portugal’s most popular beaches. The beach covers a large area and is over a mile long, with beach bars at either end. The spot is well known for its great wind and waves, and is a favourite destination amongst professional European windsurfers and board surfers. The beach is perfect for spectators and there are pretty reliable windy conditions all year round. Clear waters and the sand dunes make this area a major attraction for locals as well as tourists, although there is limited public transport to the beach. A cycle path runs the whole 5 kilometre stretch from Cascais and is very popular with runners, inline skaters and cyclists. Most of the beaches around Guincho are long established and ideal for alternative sports. There are a number of good hotels and restaurants and bars close to Guincho, from backpacker inns to Michelin Star hotel restaurants |
